PowerPoint Tutorial : Searching 101

To find items by format in First Search:

• Go to the Library Home page https://www.bcit.ca/library/ 
• In the First Search box, enter title/search terms.
• On the results page in the left menu bar under FORMAT, select the format you want (e.g., 'Book', 'eBook', 'Article, Chapter', 'DVD Video', etc.)
• From your results list, select the title you want. Eresources can be accessed your BCIT login. For physical items like print books and DVDs, record the call number (e.g., TL 685.1 K63 2006). This number tells you the location of the item on the shelf in the Library.

To Find Maintenance Resources:

• Go to https://libguides.bcit.ca/ame 
• On the Getting Started page, "Online Manuals" box, open the RESOURCE GUIDE FOR BCIT AIRCRAFT, ENGINES AND PROPELLERS
• Find the manufacturer and identify your equipment
• Use the notes to select the correct resource. Most will be listed in the "online manuals" box
• If necessary, ensure that you have Onelog installed on your computer.

To Find Streaming Videos

• Go to https://www.bcit.ca/library/
• Enter keywords into First Search box. If you are looking for a known title, enter: "title"
• On Results page, in the left-hand column, Under FORMAT, select 'eVideo.'
• The list now consists of streaming videos

To search a streaming video collection:

• Go to https://www.bcit.ca/library/
• Select 'eResource Collections' box.
• Select 'View databases a-z listing'.
• under the 'All Database Types' menu, select 'Streamed Video'.
• Select a database to search.

To find Safety Data Sheets:

• Go to Journals & Databases in this guide
• Open CCOHS : Canada's National Occupational Health & Safety Resource
• Under Web Collections, select SDS
• Enter product name in left-hand search box
• Select desired type / manufacturer
• Click through to open Pdf
